CSKA Moscow and Rubin Kazan played out a dramatic 1-1 draw at the VEB Arena in the eighth round of the Russian Premier League, in a match overshadowed by Mateus Reis's early red card and his subsequent push on referee Inal Tanashev. The hosts took the lead on 6 minutes through Ivan Oblyakov's penalty, awarded after a VAR review for a foul on Kislyak. But the game turned dramatically on 15 minutes when Reis was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Arroyo, and then shoved the referee in the back, an action that could result in a lengthy suspension. Playing with ten men for nearly 75 minutes, CSKA retreated into a defensive shell, ceding possession and territory to the visitors. Rubin piled on the pressure and equalised on 57 minutes when Anderson Arroyo headed home Aleksandar Jukic's corner. Uzbek defender Jakhongir Urozov twice went close with headers, but CSKA goalkeeper Vladislav Torop stood firm with two crucial saves. In the closing stages, CSKA nearly snatched a winner on the counter-attack, but Evgeny Staver denied Kislyak and Azzi with fine stops. CSKA registered 8 shots with 2 on target and 38% possession, while Rubin dominated with 18 shots and 6 on target and 62% of the ball. Arroyo was named man of the match for his goal and commanding defensive display. With 16 points from eight games, CSKA remain third, while Rubin stay eighth with 11 points. Can CSKA return to winning ways against Dynamo Makhachkala on September 17?
