Atletico Madrid produced a devastating late blitz to secure a convincing 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, with Alejandro Grimaldo scoring twice in the closing stages to break the hosts' resistance and extend Simeone's side's winning run to three matches. The first half was a cagey, tactical affair, with Yangel Herrera booked on 18 minutes for a cynical foul in midfield. Johnny Cardoso was booked on 75 minutes, followed by Mikel Oyarzabal on 78, as the tension mounted and both sides struggled to find a breakthrough. Just when it looked as though the game would end goalless, Atletico struck with ruthless efficiency. Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring on 84 minutes, finishing clinically from Jonathan David's pass from the left, curling the ball into the far corner beyond the Real Sociedad goalkeeper. Grimaldo doubled his tally on 90 minutes, converting Giuliano Simeone's cross from the right with trademark composure, sending the visiting supporters into raptures. David Ganczo sealed the rout on 90+5, firing home after a clever pass, capping off a stunning late surge from the visitors. Real Sociedad had 11 shots with 3 on target and 46% possession, while Atletico managed 17 attempts with 7 on target. Grimaldo was named man of the match for his two-goal display. With 13 points from five games, Atletico climb to 2nd, while Real Sociedad drop to 15th with four points.
