Birmingham 2-2 Barcelona: Beadle's shootout heroics deny Abdelkarim brace

Birmingham City celebrated a 3-2 penalty shootout victory over Barcelona after a thrilling 2-2 draw at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham watching from the stands in his boyhood club's shirt. The Championship side stunned the Spanish champions when August Priske rose above the Barca defence to head home Alex Cochrane's pinpoint cross in the thirty-first minute. But the spotlight quickly shifted to eighteen-year-old Egyptian sensation Hamza Abdelkarim, who cost Barca just one point five million euros from Al-Ahly this summer. He won and converted a first-half penalty after being felled by Christoph Klarer, then pounced on James Beadle's spill from Roony Bardghji's strike to complete his debut brace. Barca's lead lasted only eight minutes as Klarer headed a free-kick into the path of Jhon Solis, who volleyed home from close range. Beadle, at fault for the second goal, redeemed himself spectacularly in the shootout, saving from Bardghji and Brian Fariñas, while Jordi Pesquer struck the crossbar. The Blues' promotion ambitions under chairman Tom Wagner and minority owner Tom Brady received a significant boost. With Lamine Yamal and Barca's seven World Cup winners absent, Flick gave minutes to youngsters like Xavi Espart and Shane Kluivert. The Catalan side dominated possession at sixty-eight percent and managed thirteen shots, with just six on target, while Birmingham converted four of their eight efforts. Who will step up as Lewandowski's long-term replacement?
