Tottenham 2-3 Aston Villa: Manzambi & Buendia pile more misery on winless Spurs (highlights)Tottenham's miserable start to the Premier League season continued as they slumped to a 3-2 home defeat against Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, dropping into the relegation zone and heaping more pressure on manager Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs dominated the opening 20 minutes and forced Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki into four saves, with Savio twice denied from close range and Archie Gray also thwarted. But the game turned in first-half stoppage time when Micky van de Ven was off the pitch receiving treatment for a facial injury. Andy Robertson's botched clearance fell to John McGinn, whose pass found Boubacar Kamara, and Johan Manzambi poked home from close range to give Villa the lead with his first goal for the club. Spurs thought they had finally scored their first league goal of the season on the hour when Mohammed Kudus turned in Robertson's cross, but VAR ruled the Scotland international offside in the build-up. Aston Villa doubled their lead on 67 minutes when Manzambi flicked on for Nicolas Jackson, who beat Van de Ven before firing past Antonin Kinsky. Emiliano Buendia made it 3-0 on 79 minutes with a stunning strike from 25 yards that flew into the top corner, sparking an exodus of home supporters. Conor Gallagher finally ended Spurs' 492-minute goal drought on 86 minutes, and Jan Paul van Hecke headed in a late second deep into stoppage time, but it was too little too late. Tottenham have now failed to win any of their last 48 games in all competitions when conceding the opening goal, and this is their worst start to a top-flight season since 2008-09.
